Know yourself ✽ Shine your light ✽ Love life
I am currently playing Olivia in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, and was commenting to another member of the cast after the last performance what stark contrasts there are within the plot: we are shown the very heights of human capability in love, generosity and service at one end of the spectrum and the very depths of it in mean-ness, selfishness and cruelty at the other. So one minute the audience is captivated by Olivia and Viola expressing love with eloquent rapture, and the next they are laughing (perhaps a little guiltily) at the ruthless and systematic humiliation of the pompous Malvolio. We even have the ultimate opposites in the male/female twins of Sebastian and Viola.

Many years ago as a small child, I would lie awake at night with the covers pulled tight over my head. Behind my eyes brightly coloured geometric shapes twisted and danced, morphing into one another, while in my ears beat a steady rhythmic pulse which was so strong it seemed to vibrate my whole body. It felt like my own heartbeat and at the same time not. I imagined some giant presence stomping towards me through the dark in time to the rhythm and it terrified me.
Up front I admit to a biased view and a spot of nepotism here, as this book is written by my good friend Lauren D’Silva. What’s more I actually appear in it as myself! But I wouldn’t be a friend if I didn’t celebrate and promote this important achievement for her so here we go.
Lauren is an established and experienced crystal healer and teacher but this book focuses on the fascinating exploration of her own past lives and their impact on her current life.

There is a certain magic in going into one of these places, asking the universe to take you to something you need to read and then enjoying the delicious adventure of anticipation as you browse the often haphazard shelves, waiting for something to leap out at you. Please excuse this rather long introduction but I’m getting to the point, which is that this is exactly what happened to me with this book.
