Maintaining a healthy sacral chakra

Posted by on May 23, 2010 in Healing | Comments Off on Maintaining a healthy sacral chakra

The sacral chakra is located in the lower abdomen, covering the area between the navel and the genitals. Related to the water element, the sacral chakra corresponds to all the bodily functions associated with liquid, including blood circulation, urination, sexuality and reproduction. It also governs all the qualities of water, like flow, fluidity and surrender. This chakra is the centre of sexuality and also the feminine qualities of emotions, sensation, pleasure, movement and nurture. Because of the strong water element, the sacral chakra is...

Maintaining a healthy base chakra

Posted by on May 21, 2010 in Healing | Comments Off on Maintaining a healthy base chakra

The base chakra is located at the bottom of the spine and is very important as this is the first chakra, the one on which all the others above it sits. Related to the earth element, the base chakra is concerned with all your earth-bound needs, such as your body, health, wealth, security and survival. This is where you get your sense of being grounded, connected to the earth and stable. When you realise you’re in danger, it’s the base chakra that kicks in with the primal “fight or flight” response and that rush of adrenalin that sometimes...

Introduction to the chakras

Posted by on May 20, 2010 in Healing | Comments Off on Introduction to the chakras

Ancient Indian traditions teach about seven energy centres within the subtle body, which interpenetrates the physical body. The subtle body is the non-physical psychic body that is superimposed on our physical bodies. These energy centres, called chakras, are seen as spinning discs which act as generators, receiving, assimilating and transmitting life energy into the body from external sources (such as the environment, and universal, multidimensional sources). The chakras are located along the spinal cord, moving and distributing energy...

Animal magic

Posted by on May 5, 2010 in Spiritual living | Comments Off on Animal magic

All the powerful earth-based cultures, such as the Native American and our own Druidic Celtic, held an enormous respect and reverence for the animal kingdom. They believed that everyone had a particular animal that was their “totem” – an animal spirit guide that could help the person communicate with the spirit world and teach them what qualities they needed to develop and work with in their lives to fulfil their destiny. By developing a relationship with your animal totem, you can access its archetypal energy to transform...

Beginner’s guide to meditation

Posted by on Mar 17, 2010 in Healing, Spiritual living | Comments Off on Beginner’s guide to meditation

Learning to meditate is probably the single most precious gift you can give yourself. If you’re anything like me, the average working mum, you’re rushing around, living life at a hectic pace and playing several very different roles simultaneously. It’s easy to become confused, out of balance and lost, to miss the still, small voice of your inner wise self whispering words of wisdom. Meditation is a practice that helps you to tune out all the background noise and daily concerns, and to return to the calm centre of your true self. When you...

Spring cleaning for the soul

Posted by on Mar 12, 2010 in Spiritual living | Comments Off on Spring cleaning for the soul

At this time of year, we’re surrounded by new life and awakening energy. All over the world, the Spring Equinox (March 21 – 22) marks days and nights of equal length. Everything is perfectly balanced to bring fertility and manifestation – and nature is inviting you to do the same for your soul. To bring the new into your life, to be happier and healthier, you need to reclaim your inner wisdom and intuition. Learn to listen, trust and then act on your intuition, rather than just your logical mind, and you’ll restore the...

Best wishes for 2010 – reading for the year

Posted by on Jan 1, 2010 in Spiritual living, Tarot | Comments Off on Best wishes for 2010 – reading for the year

The card I drew to guide us in 2010 is the nine of cups, subtitled Happiness in my favourite Thoth deck. It’s a beautiful card showing nine purple cups topped by golden lotus flowers stacked in three rows of three like a champagne fountain, with streams of liquid gold flowing bountifully down from the top cups to overflow onto the ground. It looks like a celebration in itself and that is exactly what this card means in its simplest sense. The nine of cups reminds us to celebrate every moment for the blessings it can bring – the...

Woman’s wisdom

Posted by on Sep 30, 2009 in Spiritual living | Comments Off on Woman’s wisdom

There has been a lot of emphasis placed on the return of the feminine “mother” energy to our planet as we approach 2012, and I attended an excellent workshop on the meaning of the divine feminine a couple of weeks ago. What I already knew, but it was brought home to me fully during the course of that weekend, is that as with all great spiritual truths it begins with yourself. The divine feminine is essentially the unconditional love aspect of Spirit and I realised just how difficult it is to give that to ourselves, let alone...

Handling the Death of a Friend

Posted by on Jul 22, 2009 in Healing, Spiritual living | Comments Off on Handling the Death of a Friend

I recently lost a very dear friend – she was the first person I really connected with when I moved to this area and she was a big part of the reason why I felt so welcome and at home here. Apart from my Nan, a good many years ago now, this was the first time I’d had to come to terms with the death of someone important in my life and it has been an illuminating experience. Although I knew I believed in the immortality of the soul and the everlasting bond of love, I have realised just how deep and true that belief is. My friend...

Family matters

Posted by on Mar 18, 2009 in Spiritual living | Comments Off on Family matters

In my healings over recent months the issue of isolation is coming up again and again – people feeling alone, different, as if they don’t fit in with their family or the people around them. I can completely empathise with this as it’s something I struggled with for many years. I tried to fit in, to make friends within certain groups but it felt like a lot of hard work for very little return. What I finally realised was that I was looking to others for validation, identity, a sense of belonging and even my own happiness. It...
