The perfect pattern of ebb and flow
My recent time away on the Welsh coast reacquainted me with the perfection of the universe’s cycles and patterns. I unexpectedly witnessed the miracle of birth and new life in the plethora of seal pups hidden in quiet coves along the coastline. My heart was instantly tenderised by the breathtaking beauty of vigilant parents patrolling the waters and a seal Mum answering the strangely human call to feed her pup, dragging herself determinedly over sharp rocks and stones.
What the alder said
I’ve always envisaged this poem as a children’s picture book. Maybe it will be one day…
“Let’s visit my favourite tree,” said the girl.
“Hhmph!” said the dog, through his favourite toy.
They walked their favourite path to the stream.

Ask Me, freedom from coercive control
For the last couple of days I’ve been on a pilot training course to become one of the first Ask Me Ambassadors, whose role is to raise awareness and understanding of domestic abuse within my community and to act as a signpost to practical, professional support for those within it who are seeking help.
It’s a subject that is very dear to my heart, having experienced coercive control which involved psychological and emotional abuse within a relationship myself.

For several months now I’ve been attending a weekly acoustic music session at a local hotel bar. It’s ironic that it took a friend a fair old while to persuade me to try it, and now I feel like it’s a core activity in my life.
Music, and singing in particular, has always been soul food for me. Something happens when I raise my voice in song; it’s as if I enter a sort of trance state.
