All the powerful earth-based cultures, such as the Native American and our own Druidic Celtic, held an enormous respect and reverence for the animal kingdom. They believed that everyone had a particular animal that was their “totem” – an animal spirit guide that could help the person communicate with the spirit world and teach them what qualities they needed to develop and work with in their lives to fulfil their destiny. By developing a relationship with your animal totem, you can access its archetypal energy to transform and empower you.

Meditation is a practice that helps you to tune out all the background noise and daily concerns, and to return to the calm centre of your true self.

Spring cleaning for the soul

At this time of year, we’re surrounded by new life and awakening energy. All over the world, the Spring Equinox (March 21 – 22) marks days and nights of equal length. Everything is perfectly balanced to bring fertility and manifestation – and nature is inviting you to do the same for your soul.

To bring the new into your life, to be happier and healthier, you need to reclaim your inner wisdom and intuition. Learn to listen, trust and then act on your intuition, rather than just your logical mind, and you’ll restore the balance to your whole self.

The card I drew to guide us in 2010 is the nine of cups, subtitled Happiness in my favourite Thoth deck. It’s a beautiful card showing nine purple cups topped by golden lotus flowers stacked in three rows of three like a champagne fountain, with streams of liquid gold flowing bountifully down from the top cups to overflow onto the ground. It looks like a celebration in itself and that is exactly what this card means in its simplest sense.
