Many thanks to the artist Lisbeth Cheever-Gessaman who inspired “Daughters of the moon” with the beautiful painting you see here, entitled “The moon and her daughters”. You can see more of her wonderful work at http://www.shewhoisart.com/.
She sings them to the salt-spiced edge,
Voice lilting on the air to hearkening hearts.
Whispering words not heard by ear but felt
As a tide-pull of longing and belonging,
Answered deep and low within the pelvic bowl.
Gradually they wake, disoriented by the dark,
Presently charged to certainty by the current.
She is here!
In a thrilling hush of rustling robes and muffled rattles,
They stir themselves ready.
As one the women still to breathe,
Then slip noiselessly into the waiting night,
Snaking in procession the well-trod path
Towards the sacred ring.
Familiar to their feet they need no sight but
She lights the way, nudging them on with
Warm wind at their backs, tugging
Strands of hair to stream like living banners,
A multi-tonal sisterhood in weaving.
Rounding the curve they gasp a greeting,
All ways amazed by Her radiant grace
Of birth and death and life renewed.
Taking a place within the grounding stones
Their forms become a wombanly crucible
Holding healing wholeness for the world.
So has it been, and so shall be again.
