My first thought as I looked at the peaceful green was that the first four months of 2015 (through to April) are indeed a time for rest, recovery and a chance to breathe, if you felt bashed and battered by last year’s events. It’s important to create a still, calm space within yourself into which you can re-immerse regularly whenever external happenings threaten to throw you out of step or off balance. I noticed that myself and a few of my spiritual friends were beginning to do this very naturally already as we approached the end of 2014. Meditation, contemplation, body awareness, dream analysis and journalling are all excellent pursuits for these early months.
From this calm space, you will then recognise how you feel and be able to choose the best way forward even in the middle of the wildest storm. From this space of expanded awareness, you can also identify the areas of your life where work is needed, where conflict and unresolved issues are lurking just beneath the surface. While it’s so tempting to withdraw and avoid these sticky patches, this is absolutely what we must not and won’t be allowed to do this year. We can choose to consciously address these issues now, from a centred and aware position of clear understanding, and so achieve an authentic, constructive solution. Or whatever it is we’re avoiding because it’s too uncomfortable to think about will explode in our faces when we’re least expecting it and cause destructive havoc. I know which version sounds better to me!
On a wider scale, moving away from the strictly personal, the Four of Swords holds the energy of Jupiter in Libra. Jupiter is the planet of expansion and joy (not to mention the seat of the highest consciousness as King of the gods), and Libra is the sign of balance, fairness and relationship. So my sense is that once we have each established inner, joyful clarity through our own connection to the highest spiritual consciousness, we can carry that out and forward into our relationships with the world and all living beings. If this were to happen, there would be no need for conflict, no desire to impose views and opinions on others, and the door would truly open to unity and community. I believe that is the challenge and the real opportunity being offered to us for the latter months of this year. You can’t help but think about the burgeoning aggression infusing countries, politics and religions yet again, and how much we need this new kind of approach. Not “them” and “us” but “we”, with each one of us secure in our own soul freedom and wisdom.
So, in a sense we’re in the temporary calm before the storm, and the Four of Swords does warn that the battle isn’t completely over. Everything appears relatively peaceful, but we mustn’t allow ourselves to be fooled by that or seduced into just enjoying a break. It’s time for deep inner work now. First to recognise where the storm is brewing within ourselves and our lives and to discharge that energy consciously while we can, and then to make clear choices from a state of expanded consciousness. That way we’ll be totally ready and in prime condition when 2015 really kicks us into top gear, because there’s no getting away from the truth this year.
