The soul journey through the Thoth tarot cards: The Chariot

Chariot Thoth tarot cardContinuing my journey through the spiritual development meaning of Tarot cards, specifically the major arcana of the Thoth deck, we reach number 7…..

The Chariot Tarot card

As we all know, when choice and relationship enters your life as we saw with the Lovers card, it can be very hard to stay focused enough to move forward in one direction, and you may find yourself being pulled all over the place by conflicting demands and invitations from them and from within yourself too.  Your soul may want one thing but your ego something very different indeed.

The key to overcoming this potential chaos is to maintain a still, calm centre with a regular meditation practice. This way, you stay in touch with your own inner voice which literally keeps you on track and pointing in the right direction. It also means that you will prepare properly before embarking on anything new, tuning in to all the possibilities and what feels best for you (the higher self you and not the egoic you) before you actually put the wheels in motion.

For me, the Chariot also represents being able to discern what is yours and what is not. As you develop spiritually, your sensitivity and awareness heightens and expands, so it is easy to become overwhelmed by the emotions and desires of others with whom you come into contact. when I first started healing, I found that my empathic nature meant I had a tendency to adopt someone’s mood or even, sometimes, their symptoms. So an important aspect of the Chariot is to learn to manage and protect your own energy and personal boundaries, symbolised by the charioteer’s suit of armour. It is about knowing intimately, controlling and containing your energy so that you can direct it effectively, and without harming yourself or anyone else.

That grail, or whirling vortex, in the charioteer’s lap represents the sacred womb/hara space – the deep, dark, feminine void from which both sexes create and manifest. This womb/hara space is where we can heal and cleanse every aspect of ourselves and bring our love, wisdom and power into perfect balance. As I write this, we are only weeks away from aligning with the womb space of the galactic centre, and so opening to and honouring this aspect of our being is vital to take us into the new world beyond the 2012 winter solstice.

In your personal life, it is vital to be aware of what environments, activities and relationships have a positive uplifting effect on you and your energy, and what may drag you down or not support you on your chosen path. choosing to surround yourself with people and things that give your heart’s desires a safe, secure place to blossom is essential when you’re trying to maximise your spiritual growth.

So, by tuning into your soul’s desires and remaining focused on them through meditation, you have the passion and strength to face and overcome any challenges that life may throw at you on the road to enlightenment. I’m seeing that exciting finale sequence from Star Wars Episode IV where Luke Skywalker turns off his computer targeting system, relying instead on his intuition to aim the perfect shot that destroys the death star – that’s a pure Chariot moment!
