Standing in your power

Brighid's powerMy spiritual journey has taken me into many disciplines and paths, but essentially I believe the underlying message in all of them is the same, and very simple. We and every other living thing in the universe are part of each other and God/Goddess, and to fully embrace this understanding we must embody three qualities in particular – love, wisdom and power. For women, this is illustrated beautifully in the image of the three-aspected goddesses that are present in all world cultures. I resonate particularly with Brighid, the Celtic goddess who is inspiring light-bringer, healer and mistress of the fiery forge.

The soul journey through the Thoth tarot cards: The Sun

Posted on Feb 24, 2014 in Tarot

Thoth Sun Tarot CardContinuing my journey through the spiritual development meaning of Tarot cards, specifically the major arcana of the Thoth deck, we reach number 19…..

The Sun Tarot card

After the dream-like and mysterious moonlight, the sun shines bright and clear. You have passed an important test and new-found courage brings with it the freedom to express joyfully every aspect of the soul without fear.

Thoth Moon Tarot CardContinuing my journey through the spiritual development meaning of Tarot cards, specifically the major arcana of the Thoth deck, we reach number 18…..

The Moon Tarot card

The brightest light of the preceding Star casts the darkest shadow, and it’s into the shadows we must venture when we get to the Moon card. But a shadow is merely the absence of light, it indicates that something is preventing the light from getting through, and so now it’s time to delve deep into the Underworld where you’re not permitting the light of Spirit to penetrate.

This is not comfortable territory, and it’s easy to turn back at this point. We don’t like to focus on the murky areas of our personalities, the recesses of the subconscious where our fears are rooted.

Tidal, a poem

Posted on Jan 9, 2014 in Poetry

I was watching the sea in meditation at Widemouth Bay near Bude, when this poem just popped into my head pretty much fully formed. It was almost as if someone else wrote it through me:

Widemouth BayThe waves race to embrace the shore,
Stretching themselves out,
Pulling themselves thin,
Like reaching ghosts.
As if they know.
As if they know
That the same desire driving them
To individualisation on the sand,
Will pull them back inexorably
To the swallowing sea,
The overwhelming ocean.
And so it is with us.
