Playing with the law of opposites

Posted on Aug 26, 2010 in Spiritual living

I am currently playing Olivia in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, and was commenting to another member of the cast after the last performance what stark contrasts there are within the plot: we are shown the very heights of human capability in love, generosity and service at one end of the spectrum and the very depths of it in mean-ness, selfishness and cruelty at the other. So one minute the audience is captivated by Olivia and Viola expressing love with eloquent rapture, and the next they are laughing (perhaps a little guiltily) at the ruthless and systematic humiliation of the pompous Malvolio. We even have the ultimate opposites in the male/female twins of Sebastian and Viola.

The universal pulse

Posted on Aug 5, 2010 in Spiritual living

Community arts – the importance of creating together

Posted on Jul 5, 2010 in Spiritual living

I was at the fantastic Mid Wales Shakespeare Centre over the weekend for the Family Shakespeare Festival, in my other guise as theatre administrator and actress (as well as leading an ancestral healing workshop). The Mayan calendar

Yesterday I attended an excellent workshop by my friend and mine of information Nick Marchmont (see his details at the end of this post) on the Mayan culture and their calendar.

It was actually the second time I’d attended as I’d been a guinea pig for the first workshop, but it was more than worth a second hearing. The calendar is an amazingly complex and detailed journey through the year, giving anyone who chooses to use it a useful structure for any kind of project and indeed life management.

Animal magic

Posted on May 5, 2010 in Spiritual living

All the powerful earth-based cultures, such as the Native American and our own Druidic Celtic, held an enormous respect and reverence for the animal kingdom. They believed that everyone had a particular animal that was their “totem” – an animal spirit guide that could help the person communicate with the spirit world and teach them what qualities they needed to develop and work with in their lives to fulfil their destiny. By developing a relationship with your animal totem, you can access its archetypal energy to transform and empower you.
